What is a Hackathon?
A hackathon is a weekend long hacking marathon where ideas come to life! People (“hackers”) come together in teams of 1-4 to create a cool tech-related project in a fun, welcoming environment. We provide you with free food, swag, and caffeine to make the hacking experience as enjoyable as possible.
What are the Acceptance Criteria?
University of Louisville (UofL) students and alumni are guaranteed acceptance. For non-UofL students we ask for previous hackathon, game jam, and coding experiences so that we can invite people who have demonstrated interest and skill.
What is RUN19Hacks?
We are the official hackathon and game jam for the RUN2019 Expo and Conference and we will be hosting over 200 students for 54 hours focused on co-creating prototypes of the next big fan app, eSports game or video campaign powered by XR, Ai, and Blockchain technologies. Open to students and fans, the event’s organizing team is bringing together eSports, XR, Ai and Blockchain UI designers, developers, startups, recruiters look to help, recruit and discover what will drive mass adoption.
What do I Need to Bring?
Please bring a student ID so we can verify and register you on-site! You’ll also need to bring a computer, whatever software you feel might be necessary for development, sleeping bag, and pillow. We also recommend that you bring power strips for convenience.
How Long is RUN19Hacks?
The event is held from Friday, April 26th to Sunday, April 28th. Students hack for 54 hours. View the schedule for more info.
Who is Eligible to Participate in RUN19Hacks?
Open to all students over the age of 18 is eligible to apply RUN19 Hacks. Participants must also accept the CODE OF CONDUCT.
How Many Hackers Can Attend?
We expect around 200 hackers from schools around the country, included but not limited to, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, and many more.
What if I'm Not Very Experienced?
We do our best to point people in the right direction and use tools and languages with a low barrier to entry. There will also be upperclassmen participating in the hackathon who can guide you in the right direction. We will also be having workshops the week before the hackathon!
How Many Hackers/Team are permitted?
Teams are limited to 4 hackers. That being said you don’t have to have 4 hackers to compete. Minimum team size is 2 hackers. Teammates are free to share equipment with each other.
What if I Do Not Have a Team Before the Event?
You don’t have to form a team before the event, or at all. At the start of the event we will provide plenty of time to break out and form a new team if you choose to.
Will There be Free Food?
Yes! We will provide catered meals during the day along with snacks and free caffeine through the night to keep you going.
Can UofL Alumni Attend?
UofL alumni are eligible to attend the event to hack or mentor other students and participate on teams.

I'm New, What Should I Do?
What Should I Bring?
Your self, your creativity, hacking gear (laptop, laptop charger, monitor, or other PC hardware), photo ID, toiletries (at least deodorant & a tooth brush), sleeping gear (pillow and sleeping bag or blanket), a change of clothing and any other hardware that you’d like to hack with. Make sure to wear comfortable clothes!
Do I Need to Stay the Whole Time?
Nope, we are not a lock-in. We realize that 54 hours is a long time and that some people might need fresh air or to tend to other commitments. You may leave and go as you deem necessary, though we prefer you to stay!
How Much Does it Cost to Attend?
Tickets are between $20.00 to $60.00. This includes t-shirts, swag, and food. There are a bevy of workshops lined up for newcomers and seasoned pros alike. We even have some great activities like mini games to help you take a break and meet new people!
What Do People Normally Make?
Most projects you’ll see at a hackathon involve app or website development as well as some hardware hacks.
Will My Travel Be Reimbursed?
No, we cannot reimbuse hackers travel expenses.
What Should I Not Bring?
Please do not bring alcohol, drugs, or weapons of any kind.
